What is a GPX file?
GPX is a standard file format for GPS data. It contains every coordinate your device recorded during your race — latitude, longitude, elevation, and timestamps. It's what lets us build the exact topography of your course, not a generic version. Most GPS watches, running apps, and bike computers record GPX data automatically. You just need to know where to find it.
Exporting from Strava
Strava's GPX export is available on the website only, not the mobile app. You'll need to log in through a browser on your phone or computer.
Step 1:
Go to strava.com
This must be the website, not the Strava mobile app.
Step 2:
Navigate to your activity
Hover over "Training" in the top navigation and click "My Activities." Find your race from the list and click its title to open the activity detail page.
Step 3:
Click the three-dot menu (···)
On the activity page, look for the ellipsis icon (···) located on the left side of the page, near the map and activity stats.
Step 4:
Select "Export GPX"
From the dropdown menu, click "Export GPX." The file will download automatically to your default downloads folder with a .gpx extension.
Exporting from Garmin Connect
Garmin Connect's GPX export works on the website. If you recorded your race on a Garmin watch or device, this is where your data lives.
Step 1:
Log into connect.garmin.com
Open a browser and go to connect.garmin.com. Sign in with your Garmin account credentials.
Step 2:
Go to Activities → All Activities
In the left-hand navigation menu, click "Activities" then "All Activities." Find your race from the list and click its name to open the activity detail page.
Step 3:
Click the gear icon (⚙) in the top right
On the activity detail page, look for the settings/gear icon in the upper right corner of the page. Click it to reveal export options.
Step 4:
Select "Export to GPX"
From the dropdown, choose "Export to GPX." The file downloads immediately to your computer.
Other devices and apps
Most GPS-enabled devices and apps can export GPX files. Here's where to look for the most common ones.
Wahoo
Open the Wahoo app → tap your ride → tap the share icon → select "Export GPX." Works from the mobile app directly.
Coros
Log into training.coros.com → select your activity → click the download icon → choose GPX format.
Polar
Log into flow.polar.com → open your activity → click "Export" → select GPX. Available on the website.
Suunto
Log into suunto.com/app → find your activity → click the three-dot menu → Export → GPX.
Komoot / AllTrails / RideWithGPS
All three have GPX export options on their websites. Find your activity, look for a download or export button, and choose GPX format.
Still can't find it?
GPX files exist for thousands of races. Most major marathons, half marathons, triathlons, and cycling events publish their official course data publicly, on race websites, running databases, and Strava. The odds are good yours already exists somewhere online, free to download.
If you still cant't find your race GPX, please email us and we will try and find it.
